Up From Zionism!
Prescriptions for Jewish Survival in Articles, Special Reports, and Letters, 1995–2026
With a Foreword by Steve Rodan
Free to reserve. Nothing is charged; you’ll hear first when it’s out.
The book
Thirty-one years of warnings, in one volume.
In 1959 William F. Buckley Jr. published Up From Liberalism, an indictment of an elite intoxicated with its own virtue. In the title essay of this book, Mordechai Sones turns the same diagnosis on Israel’s governing establishment, arguing that the State has been raised from a vessel into an object of worship, and that Jewish survival now depends on seeing it for what it is.
Up From Zionism! collects 147 pieces written between 1995 and 2026: dispatches, open letters to rabbis and security officials, special reports, and columns. It begins in the weeks after the Rabin assassination and ends in the summer of 2026.

01
The Land is not the State
Just as it is impossible to change the name of the Jewish People by referendum and majority rule, so is it impossible to change the name of Eretz Yisrael to “the State of” Israel, especially when the change is not in name alone but also in content.

02
Oslo never died, because it never lived
People keep saying Oslo is dead, but what they have not yet realized is that Oslo as a treaty was never alive; Oslo was a cosmetic for a policy of abandonment.
If 'Oslo is dead' - then why is it alive? · Arutz Sheva, June 23, 2019
-
03
Survival means saying the unpopular thing
Jewish survival depends on our willingness to confront uncomfortable truths and challenge prevailing cherished beliefs, even when it is unpopular to do so.
-
04
Not anti-Zionist. Post-statist.
We recognize that the vehicle has a flat tire, a broken engine, and a drunk driver. We do not abandon the journey; we exit the vehicle and walk the rest of the way to the Mountain of the L-rd.
Up From Zionism! · Jewish Home News, January 27, 2026
From the Foreword by Steve Rodan
“The cold reality is that writing the truth today — the First Amendment notwithstanding — can destroy your news outlet, reputation and livelihood. Mordechai Sones is one of the few journalists who have taken that chance.”
“What Sones has is something that most journalists dismiss — memory.”
“Without Mordechai Sones and his ilk, a free society stands no chance.”
